From Florence to New York, more and more cities are starting to grapple with short-term rental platforms. There is a need to "put things in their proper place." That's according to Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, who warns of the need to "make sure the listings [of available homes] are great" and offer "good customer service." Only once that foundation is strengthened will there be an opportunity to "create new and exciting things again." He believes that the company's platform, which he helped found in 2008, was designed for a "much smaller" business model that has since "grown insanely." To use an accurate metaphor: It's like we never fully built the foundation. We had a house and it had four pillars when we should have had ten," he says in an interview with Bloomberg published earlier this month.
