After the Civil War, she returned to her home, and in 1896 she purchased the neighboring 25 acres of land to establish the Harriet Tubman Nursing Home. In 1903, she transferred ownership of the land to the African American Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Today, her residence, nursing home, and Thompson AME Zion Church make up Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, established in 2017.

Known as the largest home in America, the Biltmore has 250 rooms and an area the size of four soccer fields. The massive estate was built by George Vanderbilt in collaboration with architect Richard Morris Hunt and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted over a period of six years. The 8,000-acre property now includes a winery and village with a hotel, stores and restaurants.
