Bangkok is gearing up for a wave of renovation costing more than 500 billion baht ($14 billion) and backed by some of the country's leading conglomerates, with the aim of turning Thailand's capital into a rival to Singapore as a tourist destination.

A huge construction project led by conglomerate TCC Group is underway on attractive properties opposite Lumpini Park in downtown Bangkok. One Bangkok will be one of the largest private sector projects in the country, totaling 120 billion baht.

The project, which includes office, residential and commercial space as well as a hotel, is expected to make Bangkok attractive for business and tourism.
