Actor and director Ben Affleck has put his estate on Georgia's island up for sale for $8.9 million. In recent years, Mr. Affleck has used the house as a vacation spot, primarily staying in the main house when he is in town, according to sales agent Dicky Mopper from Engel & Völkers Savannah.

The property is located in Hampton Island Preserve in Georgia, about 35 miles south of Savannah, Mr. Mopper said. The island is private, and visitors need to obtain permission from a resident to cross the bridge. There is an equestrian center and a golf course on the island, Mr. Mopper added.

Mr. Affleck's complex consists of three separate buildings. Externally, it is designed in the style of an old plantation-type structure and has an area of about 6,000 square feet, four bedrooms, and is called "The Big House." The house features 24-foot tall columns, old-fashioned shutters, and front and back porches. "Every detail is historically accurate, from the plaster moldings to the pine wooden floors," said Mr. Mopper.

Two more buildings on the property include "Oyster Cottage" - a building of about 10,000 square feet with six bedrooms filled with bunk beds salvaged from trading ships, and three master bedrooms.

Windows and glass surround the entire perimeter of the open-plan space. The third building, known as the "Summer House," features a living room and an outdoor dining area, along with an indoor fireplace for cooking shrimp, Mr. Mopper said. The buildings are connected by a shell path.

On a plot of about 87 acres, the property overlooks the North Newport River, the banks of which were once home to rice plantations. The property includes a secured 38-foot mahogany sports boat named Pilar, which can be used as additional guest quarters.

In a television interview in 2004, Mr. Affleck said that he fell in love with Georgia while filming "Forces of Nature" with actress Sandra Bullock in the late 1990s. "I live on a long, dirty road, and people are very respectful of privacy there," he said, noting that he feels the most peaceful and happy here. He purchased the property for $7.11 million in 2003, according to public records.

Mr. Mopper said he wasn't sure why his client was selling. Ben Affleck, who starred in and directed films like "Argo" and "The Town," recently wrapped filming on "Triple Frontier," a new adventure crime drama in which he played the lead role, his spokesperson reported.
