Big money, big worries.
- Oligarchic village. How do the wealthy live today? A report.
- How the pink flamingo returned?
Ivanishvili, who made millions of dollars in the liquor and vodka business and the banking sector in Russia during the 1990s, returned to Georgia in 2003, but for a long time lived in North Ossetia and hardly appeared in public. He was known only from two photographs in the press and on the internet.
In recent years, Ivanishvili has been engaged in entrepreneurial activities.
At first, he actively supported the release of Saakashvili and funded one of the projects related to this release.
In October 2012, Ivanishvili won the parliamentary elections and then became the Prime Minister.
Thirteen months after the presidential elections in which his candidate participated, he announced that he had fulfilled his mission and was voluntarily stepping down as prime minister.
However, in April 2018, long before the presidential elections, Ivanishvili returned to the political arena and became the leader of the party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia."
In an informal interview, Ivanishvili announced on January 11, 2021, that he is stepping down as the leader of the party and is leaving politics altogether.
In his detailed interview, Ivanishvili stated that he was exercising public oversight, not informal governance.
However, in the same interview, he did not mention that he participated in the selection of the candidate for the position of prime minister and also reached out to the banking sector during the government debates.
