The wealth of Mardo is being sold for $3.9 million. Who will receive the money?

Once, the famous South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and younger son at his 1,700-acre estate. This site, where the horrific events took place, has just been sold for $3.9 million. According to the sales document, the buyers are James A. Ayers and Jeffrey L. Godley. This information was obtained from CBS MoneyWatch, which reviewed the document filed in South Carolina on March 22.

The money raised from the sale will be directed to the surviving son of the Murdock family, Buster, and to the victims of the boat accident that occurred in 2019, in which Paul, the son of the Murdock family, died. According to a court-approved settlement from January of this year, the main amount of about $2.7 million will go to the family of Mallory Beach, the 19-year-old girl who died in the accident, as well as to the two survivors.

Another survivor will receive $100,000, while Buster Murdock will receive $530,000. Nearly $300,000 will be allocated to a settlement fund for creditors and financial victims of Alex Murdock, as well as to cover legal fees.

At the auction at the Moselle estate, which took place this Thursday, around 3,000 people gathered, three times the usual audience, reported Emily McGarry, an employee of the auction house. One item, valued at about $35, was sold for $400. Other buyers purchased a sofa for $30,000, and bull horns hanging on the wall went for $10,000. The money raised at the auction will be donated to the Moselle estate and distributed according to the settlement agreement, according to Greenville News.

One of the sofa buyers, Philip Jennings from Soperton, Georgia, stated that he does not consider the furniture purchase to be "macabre" or "cruel." "This money will help the victims of these people who have gone through a very difficult time in their lives and have been wronged," he said.

The Moselle estate includes a luxurious 5,275 square foot home, specially built in 2011. It can be converted into a "hunting lodge accommodating 15 people," according to the real estate listing. "Equipped with commercial appliances and a large game room, [the home] is perfect for entertaining large groups," the listing notes. The estate also features a 1,140 square foot guest house and 2.5 miles of riverfront, offering freshwater fishing, kayaking, and other sports.

The announcement does not mention the crime that took place in this area when Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were found dead on June 7, 2021, in the psychiatric hospital on the Murdaugh family estate.
