Last August, Jackie Reses paid $52 million to buy Lid Commercial Bank, which had $790 million in assets and a reputation for partnering with fintech companies. Her goal was to accelerate growth and turn the commercial bank into a technology bank insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Agency and friendly to fintechs, according to journalist Jeff Kauflin of Forbes. Reses is reportedly hitting its goal so far, with Lid's total assets rising to $951 million, up more than $100 million from last year. It has attracted big fintech clients such as buy-now, pay-now provider Affirm, a''also works with clients in the cryptocurrency space. But Reses also faces a tough regulatory environment where government officials are more closely scrutinizing the relationship between fintechs and banks. Successfully navigating this environment will take work, and Reses seems ready for it.
