Brazilians are borrowing to rent accommodation in Portugal.

The president of Casa do Brasil in Lisbon said there is discrimination against Brazilian immigrants in Portugal when it comes to rental housing. Some are forced to take out loans to pay 12 months' installments up front.

In an interview with Lusa in Lisbon, Cynthia de Paula said that the problem of renting is a popular issue in Portugal and other countries nowadays, but for immigrants, particularly Brazilians, it has a special character. This is because the Brazilian immigrant community is the largest, amounting to about 400,000 people according to official figures. There is still a lot of prejudice and stereotyping by property owners towards this community, especially''to Brazilian women, as there is still the idea that they will use the house for sexual services.

The problems with renting a house in Portugal are not just for immigrants but for all people in general, but the situation is much worse for migrants, especially those from a certain country.
