After considering the idea and constantly browsing listings on Rightmove, the couple purchased a two-acre plot of land, which included a three-bedroom house, a barn, and outbuildings, for £7,000 - cheaper than their expected £300,000 mortgage in the UK.

However, then Covid-19 happened, and the family was unable to visit this site until May 2021.

Jordan and Lewis later informed their family of their decision, sold most of their belongings, packed up their RV, and arrived in Bulgaria in June 2022. The couple says that their quality of life has improved, as they now have more time to spend with their children and each other.

Jordan, a freelancer specializing in social media management, originally from Bournemouth, Dorset, said: "We really struggled with the mortgage. We had our son at 19 and moved into an apartment we couldn't afford, and that's where it all started.

It set a path for us, but owning our own home was really a big issue for us. Even with two salaries, it felt unattainable for us in the UK."

“We stopped every day to set up the camper in some place and unload it, as it was full of our belongings.” Since arriving in Bulgaria, the couple has been doing the repairs themselves - so far they have spent about £5,000. Lewis said he hopes the entire project will be completed in 10 years.

Former engineer Lewis said, "Everything is going great for us. We moved from the camper to the house quite quickly, although we didn't expect that." He added, "When we arrived, people realized we were having problems and started coming over with bags of vegetables. It was wonderful; on the day we arrived, the neighbors came over and helped us move in."
