Prices for the sale of houses in Greater Lisbon have increased by57% over four years, and in Greater Porto by61%, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (INE).
According to the idealista report, in several regions of the country, the increase in prices for homes sold from 2019 to today is even more significant.
In the Lisbon Metro, the median price reached €2,306 per square meter in the second quarter of 2023, which is 57% higher than four years ago.
In the city of Lisbon itself, the growth was less significant (+30%), while property prices surged in several suburbs, such as Moita (+99%), Barreiro (+77%), Seixal (+74%), and Setúbal (+73%).
In the Portuguese Metro, prices have increased by 61% since 2019, reaching €1,802/m². In the city of Porto itself, housing prices have also risen by about 50%, while in some other areas, the increases have been even more significant, such as in Espinho (+83%), Matosinhos (+69%), Gondomar (+63%), Santo Tirso (+56%), and Maia (+56%).
In the Algarve region, prices have increased by 51% over four years, reaching €2,583 per square meter in the second quarter of 2023.
In the municipality of Vila do Bispo, prices have doubled (+143%). In several other municipalities, homes were sold at much higher prices than before, for example, in Portimão (+65%), São Brás de Alportel (+65%), or Vila Real de Santo António (+62%).
In the autonomous region of Madeira, housing sold from April to June 2023 became 58% more expensive compared to the same period in 2019, with a median price of €1,916 per square meter.
In Funchal, the growth was 66%.
