What did Silvio Berlusconi leave in his will?

Italian billionaire Silvio Berlusconi divided his inheritance among his heirs, and the details of this division were made public after the will of the former prime minister, who passed away on June 12, was printed.

According to Italian law, heirs inherit two-thirds of the deceased's estate in equal shares, while the testator is free to dispose of the remaining third as they wish.

According to Forbes, Berlusconi and his family's net worth is estimated at around $6.8 billion, of which about two-thirds belongs to the holding company Fininvest.

Here are the details of the will:

  • Berlusconi divided two-thirds of his stake in Fininvest, which amounts to 61.3%, equally among his five children. Fininvest's assets include investments in the brokerage company MFE-MediaForEurope (MFEB.MI), asset management of Banca Mediolanum (BMED.MI), and the Serie A football club Monza. Thus, each of the five children receives an additional share in Fininvest that exceeds 8% of the total amount.
  • Berlusconi left the remaining third of his share, about 20% of Fininvest, to his older children Marina and Pier Silvio in equal parts.

Born from his first marriage, they are the only ones actively involved in the family business.
  • Marina and Pierre Silvio each owned 7.65% of Fininvest, totaling 15.3%. With the addition of the remaining shares, the two control the majority of Fininvest's stock, which means they can make joint decisions regarding the future of the business.
  • Berlusconi used the same formula for the rest of his assets, including real estate and works of art, which means that his two eldest children share about 60% of the assets, while the three younger ones share the remaining 40%.
  • Berlusconi also left 100 million euros to his last partner, Marta Fascina, whom he called his wife on his deathbed, although they were not officially married.
  • He left 100 million euros to his younger brother Paolo.
  • He left 30 million euros to Marcello Dell'Utri, a friend from his university days and a long-time aide. Dell'Utri was serving a prison sentence after being convicted of mafia connections in 2014.
  • After the details of the will were revealed, it became clear how Silvio Berlusconi's assets would be distributed among his heirs.
