DJ KEXP and music mogul Derek Mazzoni are launching a new record label.
Darek Mazzoni answers questions for this interview from Istanbul, Turkey. The unstoppable host of Volson Pop's world music show on KEXP is looking for musicians in this cosmopolitan country for possible inclusion in his concert series dedicated to Sacred Music and Art (hereafter SAMA). The Polish immigrant and veteran DJ/filmmaker and producer is also on the lookout for artists for his new record company, Old Age Recording Co. which he runs with Banya 5 founder John Goodfellow. Mazzoni calls his partner an amazing collaborator who shares his passion for building community. They have known each other for more than 20 years, and both men wish to inspire people to explore other places, even in their own'The 'census puts the number at 15.8 million], but [Americans] know so little about it. If we haven't colonized it or enslaved it or established some kind of relationship with it, it just falls off the radar.
The first Old Age releases will be albums by veteran "cyganic punk band" Kultur Shock and side project, Do-Goodrs, both from Seattle. Reflecting their best, the album Acoustic Live was released on October 6. The Do-Goodrs have singles coming out in the near future. Mazzoni explains:
