Henry Ford's Georgia home can now be purchased for $4.5 million dollars.
In the early 19th century, automobile pioneer Henry Ford and his family wintered in Fort Myers, on the Florida coast.
In the mid-1920s, Ford began looking for a more private vacation spot, and his choice fell on a coastal Lowcountry area in southern Georgia called Ways Station.
There he held practically 85,000 acres of land covering about 120 square miles.
In 1937, Ford and his wife Clara built the stately Georgian Renaissance-style residence that is now the centerpiece within the private Ford Field and River Club community.
For about a decade, however, they lived in Cherry Hill House, a 19th-century residence that has been completely renovated in the last four years and is now for sale for $4.495 million.
Two-story residence
originally built in 1870 and secured by the Ford Field and River Club estate, now has a cozy 4,215 square feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, as well as a pair of walk-in closets.
Another 2,200 square feet of covered porches extend from both the front and back of the home, offering secluded spots with panoramic views of Lake Clara and the Pete Dye golf courses that wind through this prestigious clubhouse community along the meandering Ogeechee River.
The original, noble charm of the house is felt at every turn, but at the same time the interior spaces have been slightly modified and opened up to each other for a less formal, more convivial layout conducive to relaxed entertaining.
The living room features a brick fireplace and custom cabinets, while the adjoining dining room, finished with full-height eight-panel windows, is completely open to the kitchen.
The kitchen features original top-of-the-line appliances and brass hardware.
There is also a separate dishwashing and laundry room with comfortable facilities for the small four-legged residents.
Along with a number of skillfully crafted blue storage cabinets, there is a built-in power system and a drinking fountain installed in a niche lined with marble.
Traditional details are combined with modern updates, such as an open floor plan and full-length windows.
Upper veranda
includes what is described by the real estateagency Kacey Howard and Danielle Hopper from the Howard & Hopper Team at Seabolt Real Estate as an "individual drink spot."
A nearly one-acre lot is fully landscaped with winding lawns and a fire pit the size of a bonfire.
Recently, a nearly 1,200-square-foot attached structure was added, featuring two separate two-car garages connected by a dog passage.
Ford Field and River Club, located a 40-minute drive from Savannah, spans 1,800 acres and features several miles of riverfront.
Amidst the ancient magnolias and local flora and fauna, residents and guests have access to a variety of amenities, including a deep-water marina, spa, gym, and pool, as well as a community farm and hunting reserve.
Fishing, nature tours, and kayaking with a naturalist guide are also organized.
