Ryan and his wife, Demo, moved from Bali to a village in Thailand during the pandemic. They built a small house and a separate outdoor kitchen for $22,500. Now the couple has no mortgage debt and monthly utility bills are about $155.
For Ryan and his wife, Demo, the pandemic was a catalyst for changing their lifestyle.
They traveled to Damo village in Buri Ram in eastern Thailand, where Damo relatives provided them with a plot of land. "We already had this land and had a plan to develop here in the future for our retirement," Ryan, 35, told Insider.
The couple, who have two young sons, provided information on their monthly expenses as well as all the costs of building their home and outdoor kitchen.
