Charles de Gaulle's 1945 home on the French Riviera is up for sale for $30 million.
The property, which is located in the town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the Côte d'Azur between Nice and Monaco, has nine bedrooms and is of historical value.
According to realtor Andrea Wohl Lucas of Douglas Elliman Agency, who put the property on the market in September, the house was home to Charles de Gaulle, a military officer, prime minister and president of France in 1945.
She also noted that de Gaulle even wrote his speech on the liberation of Nice right here. De Gaulle led the French Liberation Forces during World War II and presided over the Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 to restore democracy to the nation. He was appointed prime minister in 1958 and president in 1959. He passed away in November 1970 at the age of 79.
The house is notable not only for its history and former famous occupant, but also for its extraordinary size compared to other houses in the neighborhood. It covers more than 10,000 square feet and has additional staff quarters.
Now the three-storey manor house is characterized by absolute modernity. The house has spacious living rooms, two modern kitchens, a dining room, several terraces and an elevator. The master bedroom with beautiful sea and mountain views has 900 square feet of space and two walk-in closets. The house has a large swimming pool surrounded by more than an acre of green gardens, and in addition to the house there is a place to live for servants and several studios for guests or domestic staff.
