Jimmy Buffett plays a cover of Bob Dylan's Mozambique with Emmy Lou Harris on his new posthumous album: Listen.
Last month, Jimmy Buffett passed away from skin cancer at the age of 76. A few days after his death, his heirs announced plans to release an album called "Equal Strain On All Parts" after his death and shared three songs, including "The Gummie Kicked In," which features Paul McCartney on bass guitar. Today, Buffett's heirs released more tracks, including one featuring Buffett and Emmylou Harris performing a Bob Dylan song.
Bob Dylan released the original version of the song "Mozambique" on his 1976 album Desire, which was released shortly after Mozambique won independence from Portugal. But Dylan wasn't singing about fighting for the end of colonialism; he was singing about Mozambique as a pleasant vacation spot. Emmylou Harris sang background vocals in the original version of Dylan, and she also sings in the Jimmy Buffett cover.
The Buffett heirs also shared an original song, "University Of Bourbon Street," recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Orchestra from New Orleans. In this song, Buffett sings about getting his real education while getting drunk in the French Quarter. Listen to it below.
The album "Equal Strain On All Parts" will be released on November 3 via Mailboat Records.
