Egco is targeting new assets to increase electricity generation.

On June 28, 2024, at 06:25, Ms. Jiraporn reported that Apex Clean Energy plans to increase its capacity by84 megawattsnext year and on320 megawattsIn 2026, the Electricity Generating Corporation of Thailand (Egco), which is part of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, plans to increase its investment budget to acquire new assets in the current financial year, aiming to expand its capacity by1,000 megawattsannually.
At the moment, the company has already added370 megawattsnew capacity this year through the operation of existing power plants, which means that it still needs more630 megawattsto achieve the planned volume. As of June 27, the total capacity of Egco is7,003 megawattsMs. Jiraporn, recently appointed as the company's president, announced that Egco has already spent half of its30 billionThe budget allocated for the current year, and the remaining funds may turn out to be insufficient if the costs of acquiring new assets are high.
Egco is in negotiations with energy companies to purchase at leastthree assetsamong which are natural gas and renewable power plants in Thailand and the USA. According to Egco,370 megawattsnew capacities have been obtained from power plants operating on fossil fuels and renewable energy sources located in Taiwan, the USA, and Thailand. In particular, part of this capacity comes from the Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan with47 wind turbinesin which Egco owns25%stocks.
Additional energy volumes are also provided by an alternative power plant managed by Apex Clean Energy, an American company focused on developing renewable energy sources.


Ms. Jiraporn expressed hope that Apex Clean Energy will increase its capacity next year by84 megawattsand in 2026 — on320 megawattsShe noted that Egco plans to develop its business in the energy sectors, including:
- transportation of liquefied natural gas
- coal mining
- operations with oil pipelines
- services for power plant maintenance
- the creation of a new industrial park in Rayong
The company is developing the Egco industrial park in Rayong, where its now-closed gas power plant called Rayong Electricity Generation was previously located. The expected costs for the first phase of this project are just under1 billion bahtMs. Jiraporn noted.
