Fisher-Price warns parents about the dangers of using the Rock 'n Play as a sleep aid for their baby.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is once again warning parents and caregivers not to use Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play sleep seats, which are used to soothe and rock infants to sleep.

The safety of such seats was first recalled in 2019.

Now a new warning has been issued after a three-year gap. The recall affects approximately 4.7 million sleep products, many of which were sold from 2009 to 2019 in major retail chains like Target and Walmart, as well as online stores including Amazon.

These seats were recalled in 2019 after reports of 30 cases of child deaths involving the Rock 'n Play seat, where children "rolled over and fell onto their stomachs or sides during sleep without restraints or in other circumstances." Since then, there have been reports of at least 70 more children who died in connection with the use of such seats, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

In addition, Fisher-Price notes in the recall warnings: "We are unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was specifically the Rock 'n Play Sleeper." The company immediately halted sales of the seats after the recall and took steps to remove them from the market.

In connection with the initial recall, a congressional investigation was launched, and in June 2021, the House Oversight Committee published its findings, claiming that Fisher-Price "ignored multiple warnings about the dangers of the Rock 'n Play sleeper for infants, including reports of injuries and infant deaths," as stated by former Representative Carolyn Maloney, the committee chair.

Fisher-Price had previously issued consumer warnings about other models of swings and in June 2022 informed consumers about the need to stop using the Infant-to-Toddler and Newborn-to-Toddler swings during sleep.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that parents immediately stop using Rock 'n Play seats and stated that consumers can contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher.
