Where can I find the cheapest (and most expensive) real estate deals in Portugal?
The latest figures from the National Statistical Institute (INE) show that buying a property of 100 square meters in Portugal costs around 140,000 euros. However, there are places in Portugal where real estate is much cheaper, while in other places it is much more expensive.
According to a study conducted by the Idealista platform, there are 47 municipalities where prices are well above the national median. The good news, however, is that 254 of the 301 municipalities with available data from INE have a median price of homes sold below the national level. There are still 209 municipalities where it costs less than 1,000 euros per square meter to buy a house, and for that amount you can buy a house for less than 100,000 euros. It is worth noting that in the analysis of house prices in Portuguese municipalities, INE does not have available data for 7 of the 308 municipalities that make up the country: Mesão Frio, Penedono, Vila Nova de Paiva, Barrancos, Corvo, Lajes das Flores and Santa Cruz das Flores.
Where is the cheapest accommodation?
The most affordable housing can be found in the interior of the country. Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in the district of Guarda, is the most affordable place to buy a home, as the median price per square meter here is 177 euros. Guarda County has four of the 10 municipalities with the lowest home prices in the entire country. The list also includes Almeida (234 euros per square meter), Fornos de Algodres (237 euros per square meter) and Meda (243 euros per square meter). In Vila Vella de Rodaño housing costs an average of 219 euros per square meter. Besides this area, there is Penamacor in the Castelo Branco district, where housing prices average 259 euros per square meter, according to the data.
