Google will shut down a $5 billion privacy breach lawsuit.

Google has agreed to a $5 billion settlement in a privacy lawsuit involving the tracking of online activity of users of the Chrome web browser's "incognito" mode. The lawsuit was filed in 2020 by law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, which claims that Google deceives users into believing that their online activity is not being tracked in incognito mode. According to the lawsuit, the company used its advertising technology and other methods to collect information about users' visits and activities, even when they were in "private" browsing mode. Google is accused of collecting vast amounts of information without proper accounting.
According to a BBC publication, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers postponed a scheduled hearing in the California case after lawyers said they had reached a tentative agreement.

The BBC reports that the terms of the agreement are not public, and lawyers will submit its formal approval to the court by February 2024. Google has not yet responded to a request for comment on the agreement.
