Attack on Atatürk's house

In the Greek city of Thessaloniki on October 17, a group of demonstrators attacked the Turkish consulate building and Ataturk's house. Police in northern Greece detained 12 people who bypassed security and staged an illegal protest against Turkey's operation in Syria at the birthplace of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.

Support for the anarchist group

Demonstrators entered the grounds of the Atatürk House in the northern city of Thessaloniki on October 17, unfurled a banner, and were detained by security and police. The museum grounds are shared with the Turkish consulate. A Greek anarchist group claimed responsibility for the incident and published a video of the illegal protest online.

Reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement regarding the attempted attack on Atatürk's house in Thessaloniki.

"The perpetrators were taken under control by the staff of the General Consulate in the courtyard of Atatürk's house and were detained by the Greek police before they had a chance to harm the members of the General Consulate or Atatürk's house, which holds great sentimental value for the Turkish nation," the statement said.

Operation Peaceful Spring

On October 9, Turkey launched Operation "Peace Spring" to eliminate terrorists in northern Syria with the aim of ensuring the security of Turkey's borders, assisting in the safe return of Syrian refugees, and maintaining the territorial integrity of Syria.

Ankara wants to clear the eastern part of the Euphrates River in northern Syria of the terrorist group PKK and its Syrian offshoot PYD/YPG. The SDF, supported by the U.S. and predominantly controlled by YPG, holds about 28 percent of Syrian territory, including most of the 911-kilometer border between Syria and Turkey.
