Greece: British expats rush to buy affordable housing.
A British expatriate discusses the difficulties of living in Spain.
Great weather, dreamy beaches and welcoming people - Greece is fast becoming one of the top destinations for British expatriates.
Christopher Nye, senior content editor at Property Guides, told Express.co.uk that demand for Greek property has recently increased. He said: "Greece has moved from seventh place on our list of most popular overseas destinations to fourth place."
While Spain is the most popular destination for British Mediterranean emigrants, Christopher said Greece has always held a special place in the hearts of Brits. He told Express.co.uk: 'Greece has always been a popular choice for Brits to relocate. The Durrell family in the 30s, Shirley Valentine in the 80s and Mamma Mia! in the 2000s - they all capture that warm, relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere better than busier places like Ibiza or the Côte d'Ajour."
Gerald Durrell's autobiography about his eccentric family life in Corfu was a hit ITV series in 2016. Mamma Mia! captured the attention of Britons of all ages with its description of the characters' dreamlike existence on the fictional Greek island.
"The people are friendly, especially towards the British, real estate is very affordable and has just started to rise after the lowest prices," he said. "You also have a wide choice of locations, including more than 200 islands inhabited by people."
Although the island of Corfu is home to the largest number of British immigrants, Greece has a paradise for every taste. Crete, Rhodes, Spetses and Lefkada are also very popular destinations and each has something special.

"Above all, it's the incredible lifestyle that Greece offers that always draws us in," Christopher said. "The Greek debt crisis has not left the world with a better impression, but their quick and effective response to the pandemic, which allowed tourism to resume well ahead of other international destinations."
Greece has rebuilt its tourism industry faster than other popular destinations and recently announced its intention to expand winter tourism.
"Above all, it's the incredible lifestyle that Greece offers that always attracts us." The Greek diet is one of the healthiest in the world and emphasizes fresh ingredients. Rich in vegetables, fish and yogurt, experts say this diet helps prevent cardiovascular disease and strokes.
Christopher told Express.co.uk: 'Greece wants us! They have a range of visa programs for retirees and others, including an affordable golden visa. Whether it's an affordable holiday home or a permanent move, Greece is the word."
