Georgia can expedite Trump's trial for racketeering: lawyers

Now that former Trump attorneys Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro have reached deals with Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis, avoiding the need for lengthy legal proceedings, the trial for the former president's racketeering case may be postponed.
Legal experts Norm Ornstein and Joshua Kolb suggested in an article for Salon that Judge of Fulton County Scott Mackay suddenly has free time in his schedule and may decide to reschedule any of the court cases involving joint defendants in the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), including the case against a former president.
As they pointed out, this will be an additional "negative" factor for Trump and his legal team, who are now facing two former Trump lawyers testifying as prosecution witnesses after striking deals.
“The deals open up the opportunity for the judge to schedule court proceedings for other cases over the next five months, possibly including against the former president,” they wrote.
As they note, Trump also seems to have some free time.
"The first trial against Trump on these matters in federal court is scheduled for March. If Chesebro and Powell can prepare for court in an expedited manner, it is certainly not reasonable to expect Trump and other potential defendants to prepare for a jury trial in Atlanta in the coming months," they wrote.
They added that the expedited trial could also impact Trump's election.
