IBM asks its employees: Raise your hands if you want to volunteer for layoffs! - Slashdot

IBM has announced a new round of global staff reductions and has called for a show of hands from employees who wish to leave of their own accord. The biggest losses are expected to affect the European territory and several departments of the company.
The move was foreshadowed in January at a conference where IBM's chief financial officer James Cavanaugh said the company plans to cut $3 billion in costs by 2024. The announcement came after the company had already closed last year's layoff program, which resulted in about 1,200 job losses.
In the new round of layoffs, 80 percent of the employees to be laid off are in Enterprise Operations & Support (EO&S) and Q2C missions, Finance & Operations.
On the one hand, Slovakia will be the hardest hit, as about a third of all layoffs in Europe will be in its territory. On the other hand, the company will also reduce headcount in the Hungarian EO&S/Q2C Support Center and in the Finance Department in Bulgaria.
