Napa Valley, California (September 8, 2022) - The importer of fine wines Demeine Estates is pleased to announce a partnership with the Mazzei family from Chianti Classico, based at the historic estate of Castello di Fonterutoli.

Founded in 1435, the Mazzei family is considered one of the founders of Chianti Classico. Today, the winery remains family-owned after 25 generations and is one of the most awarded wineries inTuscany.

The exclusive partnership also includes additional properties of the Mazzei family: Belguardo in Maremma, Zizola in Sicily, and Villa Marcello in Veneto, and joins Ca' Rome in the expanding Italian portfolio of Demeine Estates.

“We feel honored to represent the Mazzei family and their estates exclusively in the American market,” says Philana Bouvier, president of Demeine Estates. “They embody a rare combination of rich heritage, esteemed wines, enduring values, and an innovative spirit in one of the world’s most renowned wine regions, and we are proud to share their deep story with our partners across the country.”

The estate is home to two generations of the Mazzei family, who run the winery. Brothers Filippo and Francesco Mazzei serve as executive directors, while Filippo's son Giovanni Mazzei is the export director, and his cousin Lapo Mazzei is the retail director. The Mazzei family's generational legacy emphasizes a balance between history and innovation, preserving historical vineyards and winemaking knowledge while also embracing research and technology. The modern renovated wine cellar is a project by architect Agnese Mazzei, the sister of Filippo and Francesco.

Castello di Fonterutoli, the main estate of the Mazzei family, where their famous Chianti Classico is produced, encompasses 110 hectares of vineyards across five different locations. These are further divided into 120 individual plots with varying elevations, soil types, and overall terroir. Each "microzone" is managed separately through mass and clonal studies. The estate is known for its Gran Selezione vineyards, two of which are bottled as single vineyard wines.

“At Demeine Estates, we have found a partner who reflects our values and will bring our wines to market with dedication and persistence,” says Export Director Giovanni Mazzei. “Their focus on family, quality, and sustainability in relation to winery partners inspires us in our collaboration.”

In the philosophy of "our past is our future," the focus of winemaking is directed towards local grape varieties that express the identity of the region and promote sustainability through the health of the ecosystem. Their resource-saving method, related to vineyard management and waste-free wine production, allows for the maximization of water reserves and the preservation of biodiversity, offsetting carbon emissions so that their long family heritage and historical vineyards can continue to thrive for future generations.

“For Demeine Estates, one of the longest-standing producers of Chianti Classico, this partnership is an important alignment of our values, as well as an invaluable opportunity for our young company,” says Scott Diaz, Marketing and Global Brand Strategy Officer at Demeine Estates.

Demeine Estates will be importing the highly acclaimed wines of the flagship brand Marchesi Mazzei, including Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione, which honors the family estate in Chianti Classico, Siepi Toscana IGT, and Concerto di Fonterutoli Toscana IGT. Additionally, the namesake wine Badiolà and Vicoregio 36 Gran Selezione will be imported fromTuscany, as well as the Chianti Classico Riserva Sir Lapo and Chianti Classico Fonterutoli.
