The study of the Land Bridge estate will take place soon.
President of the government, Srettha Thavisin, during his visit to Ranong province in January for the Land Bridge project, which aims to connect the Gulf of Thailand with the Andaman Sea. A study on the construction of a new industrial park to support the proposed government Land Bridge project is expected to be completed in 3-4 months, according to the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).
IEAT Governor Viaris Ammarapala did not specify where the industrial complex would be built, saying only that it would be developed into a "sustainable and environmentally friendly industrial park." The Earthbridge development includes a logistics network connecting Ranong on the Andaman Sea to Chumphon on the Gulf of Thailand. The project will include deep-water ports in both provinces, a highway running through the land to connect the two provinces, and a rail system.
However, the project has sparked protests from local environmental organizations concerned about its negative impact on their way of life, as well as the risk of corruption within the project. Mr. Viaris stated that the authorities plan to build another industrial park as part of the state policy on bio-, circular, and green (BCG) economy, but this plan has not yet been developed.
The BCG policy encourages manufacturers to use technologies that can add value to their products with minimal impact on the environment. A discussion between IEAT and the government is necessary to promote the BCG industrial park, as the project requires land acquisition and a clear budget, he said.
“Two new industrial parks cover a total area of 1,295 rai,” said Mr.
For the financial year 2024, IEAT has set a target for the sale of industrial land at 4,500 rai, considering that the impact of geopolitical conflicts may lead foreign investors, especially from China, to invest in Thailand or Southeast Asia.
"If conflicts between the countries continue, it could be a contributing factor in increasing foreign investment in Thailand and neighboring countries," Mr. Viaris said. From October 2023 to March 2024, the agency's total industrial land sales amounted to 3,946 rai, including 3,472 rai in the Eastern Economic Corridor. The total investment amounted to 158 billion baht.
