Examining State delay in adapting to climate change
In its report yesterday, the French judicial body argues that France still does not understand or appreciate the seriousness of climate change, and demands the establishment of real "planning".
In a report almost entirely devoted to adaptation, Rue Cambon magistrates explain the delays associated with the state, communities and businesses on this issue.
According to the report, although Europe has been continuously affected by climate change, including droughts and heatwaves, for the past two years, France has not taken this into sufficient consideration.
State absences and silences are examined throughout the sixteen sections of the report, including cities, transportation networks, forests, military, flooded areas, health, banks, and finance.
The report says there is a need to make political choices in all areas of government activity to cope with the challenges of adaptation.
Christophe Beschi, minister of environmental transition, is due to table the third national adaptation plan in April, with a presentation scheduled for the summer, he said.
He welcomes the report's "substantial proposals," promising that they "can clarify questions about the most feasible financial options for adaptation."
