How to travel to the wine country of dreams without leaving downtown Napa.

Napa has always been a place where people go to go to the vineyards.

The choices here are truly vast, with more than 400 wineries in the region. But if you'd rather skip the drive and walk from tasting room to tasting room, it's easy to sample Napa's best wines in downtown tasting rooms (and California brandy if you're looking for something stronger).

With more than 50 wineries located in the heart of the city, you could spend days trying to decide where to go. But here are the ones you don't want to miss.

Acumen makes great wines of their own production (meaning the team farms their own vineyards, not''supplied by grapes from other vineyards) in Napa, which reflect the terroir of the region. The vineyards, mainly growing cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc, are located on Mount Atlas, defined by its volcanic soil and high position, ideal for grapes, which gives the wines a distinctive, rich and complex flavor. Of particular note are the two wine collections, under the direction of renowned winemaker Philippe Titus: the soft and refined PEAK collection and the dynamic Mountainside collection.

Vermeil Wines is famous for its red wines (cabernet sauvignon, grenache and cabernet franc) and white wines (chardonnay and sauvignon blanc). The brand was founded by Dick Vermeil, a soccer coach and wine connoisseur who invested in the local winery''industry in 1999. It also produces balanced, harmonious Bordeaux blends. The winery is also committed to sustainability and heritage in winemaking. It sources its grapes from vineyards that have been practicing viticulture for 100 years.

Levendi WineryLevendi Winery is another well-respected winery in downtown Napa known for its storied history of producing excellent cabernet sauvignon. At Levendi Vineyards, each grape is meticulously hand-harvested and aged primarily in French oak barrels, giving the wines fullness of flavor and deep complexity.

Boutique, modern and elegant wine tasting room in the heart of Napa, Mia Carta Mia Carta is a great option if you want a casual intimate experience. Mia Carta represents small production wineries from Napa whose founders either had parents born in Napa or have strong ties to the region. Each of the winemakers has a different style that brings different flavors to each tasting experience, making it suitable for a variety of guests. Depending on the timing of your visit, you may be lucky enough to see the' themselves'winemakers in the tasting room, and they'll be able to share their story right there. You can taste four, five or nine red and white wines, including signature pinot noirs, chardonnays and cabernet sauvignons - all produced using sustainable farming principles at vineyards like Art House, Essere Franco and Sciandri Family Vineyards.
