Canadian men's volleyball team defeats Bulgaria
The Canadian men's volleyball team defeated Bulgaria 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20) on Thursday, breaking a streak of five losses at the Volleyball Nations League in Orleans, France. Leading the team was Stephen Mar, who scored 15 points as the Canadians picked up their second win of the season.
Canada improves its record to 2-5 and sits 11th overall out of 16 teams, having defeated Cuba earlier in the campaign. Bulgaria drops to 1-5.
"It was a very important win," Canada head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo said.
"It gives us confidence. Of course, there are still areas where we need to improve, but today we made progress in''s offense and have become more efficient. We still have to play better on the block and defense. "
Canada will conclude the second leg of the season in Orleans, France with a match against the hosts on Saturday at 9 p.m.



Canada provided a shining example of rallying when, after losing the first set, they won the next three sets in a row (22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20) to defeat Bulgaria in the Orleans leg of the Volleyball Nations League. Canada's record now stands at 2-5.
The Canadians showed good play, especially at times when they were leading. They showed leadership on the court, staying calm and focused on the next serve. "This is an important part of our journey," said''Sammelvuo.
Bulgaria scored 11 points with blocked shots, while Canada had seven blocked points. Aleksandar Nikolov was Bulgaria's top scorer with 15 points.
