What is corduroy?

Corduroy is a fabric with elongated loops that, as an extra row of threads, are woven into the main fabric, creating high vertical ribs called "ribs." Corduroy is a type of wide woven fabric known as fusta. Fusta is a generic name for any dense, durable fabric with a rough pile. The low density of corduroy creates a more uniform surface, while the large and wide creates a greater depth of frame. This fabric is often compared to corduroy, however in making corduroy the rough cores''snap to the base so that vertical lines are created.
