Atlanta, Georgia (First News of Atlanta) - Georgia Congressman Austin Scott submitted a brief application for the position of the next Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday. It lasted only a few hours before House Republicans nominated a candidate from Ohio, Jim Jordan, for the vacant position.

“Congressman Austin Scott has distinguished himself over the years as an expert and leader on agricultural issues - he is from South Georgia, where this is the number one industry - and on military matters.”- said longtime Republican strategist Brian Robinson to Atlanta's First News.

Robinson said that whoever secures the necessary 217 votes to obtain the speaker's chair, Republicans need to act quickly and unanimously to restore trust in the party.

“I think we are in a place where there are no obvious people, it will take a long time to discuss this.”- He said."Offer us something to vote for, give us leadership and vision, and don't come across as crazy people who can't be trusted to run the country."

According to the Associated Press, Republicans gathered behind closed doors again on Friday as the search for a House Speaker enters its second week.

According to the source, only Scott and a candidate from Ohio have dropped out of the competition for the position, with candidate Loudermilk supporting "I am working to make Jim Jordan the next Speaker of the House, and I urge my colleagues to support him as well," Loudermilk said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Last week, Scott joined 44 other Republicans in calling for a review of the chamber's rules following McCarthy's removal.

“The justice that we have all witnessed cannot be ignored - otherwise, we will bear the consequences.”- read the letter signed by Scott."Our faction meeting needs to consider radical changes in the structure of our majority to ensure success for the American people."

Scott would become the fourth Georgian to hold the position of Speaker of the House, following Democrats Howell Cobb (1849-1851) and Charles Frederick Crisp (1891-1895), as well as Republican Newt Gingrich (1995-1999).
