Canned fish: Bulgarian corruption investigation challenged by critics.

The Bulgarian Anti-Corruption Commission says it has found no conflicts of interest in connection with real estate ownership that led to the resignation of four high-ranking government officials following the discovery of their purchase of luxury apartments at discounted prices.

Four senior officials from Bulgaria's ruling GERB coalition have resigned during a criminal investigation initiated after the discovery of suspicious real estate deals with Arteks in March by Radio Liberty, news website Bivol.bg and the non-profit Foundation for Fighting Corruption in Bulgaria.

The resignations include a former GERB member and former vice-chairman of parliament' 'Tsvetan Tsvetanov, as well as former Justice Minister Tsetska Chacheva, former Deputy Energy Minister Krasimir Parvanov and former Deputy Sports Minister Vanya Koleva.

The Anti-Corruption Commission said on June 24 that after a three-month investigation they had concluded that there was no conflict of interest on the part of officials from the ruling GERB coalition in changing the law on construction arrangement in favor of Arteks.

All four politicians purchased real estate from Arteks at prices well below market value after members of the GERB party amended Bulgaria's building code in January 2017, allowing Arteks to continue building a 34-story skyscraper in Sofia.

The design of the Golden Age skyscraper was' 'finalized in April following an RFE / RL and other media investigation that brought to the attention of inspectors and the public the legality of building permits at Arteks.
