The Hiry family is one of the most well-known in Atlanta's history. Hiry Sr., the father of George, who passed away two years ago at the age of 93, helped develop historical landmarks - the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and the Georgia Dome. He also contributed to the creation of facilities on the Emory University campus and the Atlanta History Center. His father and family were also very politically progressive, as Hiry Sr. supported Andrew Young when he won a seat in Congress in 1970.

Khiri was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries, the police reported. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Philip's Cathedral in Atlanta.
