Livra calls for housing measures, a hydrogen agency and a more effective fight against corruption.

When asked about the openness of the Socialist Party (PS) regarding the approval of some measures from Livre, Rui Tavares replies that "the situation is that, unlike last year", the party has not yet held "sectoral meetings" with the executive branch. Livre will present about 130 proposals to modify the state budget for 2024, including state aid for the purchase of first homes, a state hydrogen agency or strengthening the fight against corruption.

At a press conference in the Portuguese Parliament, the only Livra MP, Rui Tavares, presented proposals to change the budget.

Livre's proposals include a program for the state to subsidize part of the down payment on purchases''first housing for up to 30% of the market value of the property in the form of equity in the form of a loan.

According to this subsidy, Rui Tavares explained, "the state becomes co-owner of the interest corresponding to the amount of money contributed" and once the "deferral period" has been overcome, people can "buy back this down payment assistance from the state or pay a reasonable interest for this down payment assistance." "This is the creation of a program that tries to fight the social and generational gap that occurs in Portugal when buying your own home, especially first homes, low middle class and young people," supported the MP, adding that this is Livre's "original proposal" since he came''Prime Minister, already in a specific discussion, that he believes that no distinction should be made between those who have never contributed because they do not reside in Portugal and other buyers of luxury real estate,' justified the MP.

Another stand-out proposal from Livre is the creation of a state or public hydrogen agency in the country, which would allow "transparency in the political processes related to the energy transformation." The sole MP also wants to "strengthen the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, as well as create a public agency to fight corruption, fraud and economic-financial crime. "

Livra also proposes to expand the national rail''a travel ticket for suburban, interregional and intercity trains with a maximum monthly cost of 49 euros and an increase of 44 euros in child allowances.

The expansion of the 3Cs - Housing, Comfort, Climate, energy poverty programs and the creation of a Portuguese artificial intelligence agency are other standout proposals of Livre.

When asked about the possibility of the approval of some of Livre's measures by the Socialist Party

Ruy Tavares replied that "the situation is that, unlike last year," the party has not yet held "sectoral meetings" with the executive, and it is impossible to conclude from the hearings whether the government will pass the game. "Before the vote, we will see what the faction will do'''The PS parliamentary group, what instructions it will receive from the government,' he said.

President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has called early elections for March 10 following the resignation of Prime Minister Antonio Costa last Tuesday.

The formal process of government resignation has been suspended so that the budget can still be approved. The 2024 state budget proposal is being debated in parliament in a special procedure, with a final vote scheduled for Nov. 29.
