Maestro Bollinger is going on a world tour.
The famously humble, family-owned Champagne brand is spreading the word about its upcoming bicentennial celebrations.
For those who haven't been or dream of visiting, Champagne, France seems like a distant, mysterious place - a land of rolling hills and historically rich vineyards whose greatest asset is its effervescent relative.
For those who have had the pleasure of visiting here, it is all this and more: enchanting, intoxicating (sometimes literally) and truly worth the 46-minute train ride from Paris to Reims, the commercial center of the Champagne region, and the 33-minute car ride to the southern part of the grand cru appellation, the most prestigious of all classifications.
B''In the town of Ai, where Champagne House Bollinger is based, traceable and well-kept vineyards, of which 85% are grand cru rated, are within sight of the company's main dwelling, which has long been a venue for private events, friends of the estate and the occasional member of the media.
Now, however, this humble family brand is opening up and turning part of its aforementioned dwelling into a 20-room hotel. It will also launch the most modern cellar in the region, with a capacity of 5,000 228-liter barrels and will be able to host up to 20 people in two private tasting rooms. The brand's personal estate, the courtyard of brand maestro Elizabeth Bollinger, will be transformed into an event space where up to 200 guests can gather to enjoy''excellence of the surrounding area and savor champagne.
This is a significant evolution, according to brand representatives, including longtime fans; Bollinger is built on tradition, and the brand will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2029. Their traditions, preserved against industry regulation, allow them to remain among the most respected Champagne brands. In the 20th century, for example, Madame Bollinger declared her intention to brew wine in oak barrels, which has become a hallmark of the house's production and gives the finished product a creaminess and elegant softness. "It's important to stick to traditional methods, even if they seem outdated," she famously stated. "The quality of my wines proves it. "
And now Bollinger will travel with this wine to''world tour, as part of the brand's bicentennial celebrations.
"Maison Bollinger is a unique fulfillment for Champagne House Bollinger and we are proud to welcome the world into our home and celebrate our incredible heritage," says Charles-Armand de Belinet,''s director of management for Champagne Maison Bollinger. "Every artifact at Maison Bollinger is a reference to our history and the incredible ambition of the late Madame Bollinger, who modernized the house and first introduced Bollinger to New York City. It is important for us to continue to honor her unique legacy, which is why we are thrilled to launch Maison Bollinger in a city of such great significance. "
Dates will be announced at a later date, but future guests should expect the same: to enjoy all sorts of experiences, from soundtracks to expertly conducted tastings, to gourmet treats in the company of celebrities. Above all, these parties should create a memorable first impression of the estate, even for those who have long appreciated them''wine.
