Marco Rubio is afraid of Trump's posthumous fate and is very worried.
Donald Trump has not yet announced who he will choose as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, but a new figure has emerged who is a strong contender, and that is none other than his fellow Floridian Marco Rubio.
The American Constitution and the rules of the Electoral College prohibit a candidate for vice president from being from the same state as the presidential candidate. However, Trump does not strictly adhere to the fundamental law, which may force him to choose another Floridian as his vice president, especially if it helps him avoid prison and win the election.
As for Rubio, he clearly doesn't care about the rules.
In his statements to reporters, he expressed joy at the thought of becoming Trump's "number two." "Anyone who is offered the opportunity to serve their country as vice president should consider it an honor," he said. "I mean, that's why I'm in public service." He added that he had not yet spoken to anyone from Trump's team about this opportunity, but promised, "If anything changes, I will let you know."
Recently, a prominent GOP member from Florida stated on NBC that a 52-year-old senator, who has a 0 out of 100 rating from the HRC due to his long-standing anti-LGBTQ+ stance, is among the candidates. A witness from Trump's circle said, "Apparently, Rubio is in the running as a candidate for Trump. It makes sense because he practically meets all the criteria, except for the issue that both are from Florida."
It seems that both politicians are not too concerned about the rules.
And don't expect the Republican National Committee, now led by Trump's daughter-in-law Lara, to intervene and demand rule compliance. She's too busy taking photos with the leader of "Gays for Trump," Scott Presler, to pay attention to such trivial matters.
Two MAGA political operatives told USA Today this week that the former president, who has been impeached twice and faces four charges, is currently focused on his criminal trial regarding the hush money case starting in New York on April 15, rather than on selecting a vice presidential candidate. In turn, he will be able to raise funds to cover nearly $600 million in court judgments that have been imposed on him since the beginning of the year. He is also raising money for his campaign.
Trump is currently significantly behind Joe Biden in terms of cash on hand. Biden's campaign recently announced that it has raised $155 million for the election campaign, while Trump's is much more modest at just $36.6 million.
The former president and anti-LGBTQ+ senator from Florida has a complicated past.

In the meantime, Trump has hardly attacked Rubio since their presidential campaigns eight years ago, likely because after taking office, Rubio voted with the former president 88% of the time. Generally speaking, if it weren't for the 12th Amendment, Little Marco could have been a decent choice for vice president. As a Cuban-American, he would be able to attract more votes from Spanish-speaking voters, as well as gain support from Republicans and independent voters who feel some uncertainty about Trump.
The Trump administration claims that he does not have a short list of candidates for the vice presidency and, in fact, has a very long list that is only growing each week. They also indicated that he is likely not to make an announcement until the opening of the Republican National Convention, which will take place in Milwaukee on July 15.
