The minister will assess the situation at the checkpoints.
Last week, Thailand's Minister of Commerce, Phumtham Wechayachai, took on the important task of assessing the readiness of the border points of Boten in Laos and Mohan in China to support the export of Thai fruit to China. The trip was successful, and the fruits for 2024 are set to be shipped at the end of this month. This time, the exported goods include durian, mangosteen, and longan from all over Thailand, as well as electrical transformers and iron ore.
The route follows the R3A from Chiang Khong in Chiang Rai Province to Kunming in China via the Boten border crossing in Laos, which is the shortest route.
The minister will also visit Yunnan Province in China for talks with the governor of Xuanban Dai Autonomous Prefecture and the mayor of Jinghong City as part of expanding trade between Thailand and China. Thailand aims to speed up the process of authorization by the Chinese customs authority to import certain goods from Thailand, particularly dates, dragon fruit and live cattle.
Pumtham Wechayachai also plans to hold negotiations with Chinese investors interested in real estate development, hotels, tourism, and technological advancement in Thailand, as well as in the import of agricultural products, beverages, and consumer goods.
This trade mission will not only strengthen the trust of Thai businessmen in sending their fruit abroad through the border crossings in Laos and China, but it will also contribute to an increase in the export of agricultural and livestock products in the future.
