On the Farm: Macon attorney offers free inheritance planning seminar for Georgia farmers

It's a Saturday morning in the state of Georgia with hot summer sunshine. Normally, people enjoy these mornings by sleeping in longer and perhaps spending time by the pool. But Veronica McClendon, a successful attorney from Macon, chooses to spend her day helping others.

McClendon gets up early and heads to Hancock County, where she is giving a free seminar at St. Galileo's Church in Sparta. Specializing in estate planning at her firm, McClendon Law & Consulting, she comes to offer information and guidance to farmers and landowners on how to pass property to the next generation.

McClendon's passion for helping to preserve legacies drives her to travel throughout the state offering free seminars.

"I want people to become more prosperous, and to do that we need to have good legacy planning," McClendon says. "We often talk about poverty, economic disparities and wealth disparities. It comes from a lack of proper inheritance planning. I believe this is a way to fight poverty and help people meet their economic needs through good planning."

As part of his "On the Farm" column, McClendon shares his advice to farmers on how to have the right protections in place to preserve their farms for their heirs.
