Johnny Hallyday's legacy: Bardot in France's family conflict.
February24, 2018
Famous French actress Brigitte Bardot has become involved in a family dispute over the inheritance of late singer Joni Allidae.
In a radio interview, the movie legend urged Joni's widow Laetitia, who is the main heir, to give some of the money to the deceased singer's eldest children.
Singer David Alliday and actress Laura Smet, who will inherit nothing, are contesting their father's will.
Joni Alliday died of lung cancer in December at the age of 74.
Bardo told radio station Europe 1 on Saturday: 'I'm just disgusted by it. If I were Leticia, I'd fix it. I would give David and Laura what they deserve.
According to the country's inheritance laws, which date back to the French Revolution, all children should receive roughly equal shares of inheritance.
But Joni Allidea, who lived in California and was a resident because of tax purposes, bequeathed his entire estate to his fourth wife Letizia and their two adopted daughters.
Laura Smet, whose 34, and David Alliday, whose 51, announced their intention to sue in probate court last week.
Since then, several famous faces of French pop have spoken out on the issue.
Eddie Mitchell, another rock legend and friend of the late singer, said, "I don't see how you can disinherit your children. "
Jean Renault, actor and friend of Joni and Laetitia, asked the family not to give in to "hate".
Sylvie Vartan, Joni Allidae's first wife and David's mother, said that when they divorced in 1980, she urged Joni to give her share of their home and pass it on to her son.
