The remote North Sea coast has become the cheapest coastal location to buy a property in the UK. The town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea has been named the most affordable coastal location in England for a home-buying opportunity this week, with the average cost of a house coming in at £117,763. A house on the seafront will cost you around £300,000 or even more, and many of the cheaper homes are inland. However, locals say the town is underrated and has some amazing features.

Salcombe in Devon has been named the most expensive coastline in the country, with some hotels asking for almost £500 a night, but in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea one room is advertised for just £25 per person. In the Devon resort, a latte is priced at £2.80 in a café, but in the north''They cost as little as £1.90. A fish supper by the sea in Salcombe can cost £13, while in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea it's around £9.40.

Owner of a tailoring store in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Hazel Steele, 64, grew up in the town and believes it is "the most underrated place in the UK", reports Chronicle Live. Hazel, a mother of two, has owned her store, Sewing and Patchwork by the Sea, for six-and-a-half years. She says that her store is constantly crowded with tourists who are attracted by the lower cost of living, and that two people can have a great meal and a drink''A bottle of wine for £20-£25. Hazel says: 'It's one of the most underrated places in the UK'.
