Uncontrolled migration of Russian citizens
24 June, Batumi hosted a discussion on various issues related to the Reform and Research Group initiative. Among them are improper urbanization of the city, lack of parking lots, environmental situation, unfinished and improperly planned infrastructure projects, as well as the economic and urban crisis in Russia, which affects the citizens of Georgia.
The discussion was attended by several participants, including Jamlat Gvidiani, a doctoral student of the Reform and Research Group.
In his opinion, Batumi has several problems, including attracting Russian tourists. "They affect the economy and corruption because uncontrolled financial flows and corruption are also present in small and other businesses," Guidiani said.
He also noted that the prices of real estate as well as food and the total amount we spend on the people of our country originally thought that they would go up after they came in, but in fact they are already going up. According to him, due to the unstable property of Georgian citizens, most of us cannot afford to buy an apartment in Batumi or Tbilisi, and we cannot afford an affordable price either. "
Georgians say increased migration from Russia threatens the country's security. In his opinion, civil society activism in this city is low. "When absolutely terrible things happen in Batumi, and it doesn't require expertise, it is obvious that only the Russian voice and their activity is heard.
In his opinion, in order to solve the problem, it is necessary to first solve the problem of freedom as a problem related to Russian migrants and their problems. "They need to be identified who is a tourist and who is not, because if Russian citizens are still entering the country unchecked, it will also change the demographics of Georgia. They have children who need schools, kindergartens, relevant specialists, they need medical care in their own language and there is already one clinic in Tbilisi and there are kindergartens and other centers," Gvidiani said.
He also said that it should be simplified for the willing population to obtain citizenship, including exams on language skills, history of the country and laws. "Now we see that even Russian women living here do not want to learn Georgian, and there is no reaction to all this," Gvidiani said. According to him, all this should be linked to social problems, as we have serious problems not only with the economy but also with the security of the country. Our new generations do not have the opportunity to work due to the unstable situation and because of this, freedom is needed to make it easier for the people of Georgia to obtain.
