The unpleasantness surrounding the Princesses of York and Lady Louisa: the desire to turn them into working members of the royal family.

I think King Charles is pretty happy with the current situation of the "working royal family". He knows his heir and his wife are lazy fools and can't walk and chew gum at the same time. He also knows that the rest of the "working royal family" are as boring as dry pieces of toast. But that's all fine with him - he believes royalty is zero-sum, and if someone else gets attention, it takes something away from him. He wants all the attention, along with his wife.

This has led to a fundamental rift between the palace and the press - four years after Sussexit, the British press is experiencing buyer's remorse and craving excitement. All this means that a quiet campaign to persuade Charles to make various royal women "working members of the royal family" has begun.

There's this funny story:

The royal family is holding emergency meetings over the possible drafting of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice as 'working members of the royal family'. King Charles reduced the number of members of the royal family during his first year in office. Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh are the "working members of the royal family" that King Charles relies on for events. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew are former senior members of the royal family who no longer perform duties for the firm. Now there has been a shortage of royal family members to attend events, and this has drawn criticism from the royal family. The Duke of York's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are not currently "working members of the royal family" but the possibility is being considered, according to the source. A source told Ok!"Emergency meetings have been held to find a solution to the ever-increasing number of royal duties both here in the UK and abroad. Fresh blood is needed to attract the younger generation and the only available candidates are Beatrice and Eugenie." [From GB News]

Obviously Beatrice wants to work for the royal family, Eugenie not so much. Eugenie is now "semi-retired" and mostly lives in Portugal. I can actually believe that Charles might have let Beatrice "work" to some extent. But no, he's not holding emergency meetings about it.

In the meantime, they're also trying to say that poor Lady Louise needs to become a "working member of the royal family" too:

Lady Louise Windsor is set to "follow in the footsteps of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie" and get a new role, according to a commentator.

The eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh is now a sophomore at the University of St. Andrews, where Prince William and Princess Kate studied. Royal commentators are claiming that this 19-year-old may get the chance to take up royal duties after graduating from university. Kate Mancy, who frequently discusses the royal family, believes Lady Louise could one day become a "working member of the royal family". She said: "I think Lady Louise ... In the palace I have spoken to, Lady Louise is, I think, quite willing to do that. I remember attending an event at the Guildhall and she was with her father and was very knowledgeable about the sights and foreign royalty. I think she can play a similar role to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie." The commentator also said on The Royal Beat program: "She's at university at the moment," and added that Louise still has "plenty of time" to get used to a bigger royal role. [From GB News]

Once again, it's a reflection of the disagreement between the palace and the press - Charles doesn't want anyone else, especially not young princesses who might divert attention away from some deemed wine-bag. But the British press is in utter despair. They may soon have to - horror! - to report on what is really going on in this tragic institution. As for Lady Louise, she seems like a sweet and unassuming young woman. This is a story her mother especially likes. Photos courtesy of Avalon Red, Backgrid, Instar, Cover Images.
