Nigeria: In Lagos, the NDLEA has discovered shipments of meth and opioids.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials raided several courier firms in Lagos where they foiled attempts by drug syndicates to export illicit substances, including various quantities of methamphetamine and opioids hidden in the hems of new denim pants, dolls, buttons, local soaps and tins of Milo drink to Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Asia.
The items intercepted by NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) at courier services in Lagos included:
- tramadol 225mg concealed in the linings of new denim pants bound for Cyprus;
- cannabis sativa, hidden in the heads of dolls,'''bound for Dubai, UAE;
- tramadol 225mg packets hidden in tins of Milo drink, bound for the UAE;
- another shipment of the same drug hidden in local soap, also bound for the UAE;
- a shipment of methamphetamine hidden in buttons bound for Hong Kong;
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi
said in a statement that the courier firm also intercepted a shipment of another banned substance from Florida, USA, and the recipient, Daniel Ogie, was traced by NDLEA officials and arrested at 5 Akeem Shittu Street, Ajao Estate Lagos on November 24, 2023.
The statement also noted that on Friday, December 1, operatives in Lagos also arrested a drug lord, Okechukwu Ogala, 56,'''who specializes in exploiting and recruiting young nationals to export meth to Asian countries.
In another operation in Lagos, officers on December 1 recovered 393 kilograms of cannabis from a store in Akala area of Mushin, while suspect Justin Enuone, who deals in Canadian Laud, was arrested by the police at Victoria Island and handed over to the Lagos Command NDLEA on December 1 with 154 bags weighing 92 kilograms.
The NDLEA team also intercepted a vehicle at Oingbo area of Lagos and seized 108 kilograms of cannabis from it, while 675 kilograms of the same substance was also seized from the warehouse of a wanted dealer, Wahab Olota, in the area'''Adedoja, Mushin, Lagos.
The statement added that in Edo, NDLEA officers on November 29 stormed Ujiogba forest, Esan West local government area of Edo where they discovered 5,988 kilograms of cannabis already processed and ready for distribution and arrested 22-year-old Msona Bunde (alias Tete Peter Joseph), who was found in a hut on a hemp farm.
