The new BMW M5 Touring has been officially confirmed for America!

America never received the M5 Touring E61 with its atmospheric V10 engine. The United States also missed out on the rare E34 wagon, one of the last hand-built M cars. To add insult to injury, the M3 Touring G81 is also a forbidden fruit. However, all is forgiven. BMW has finally officially confirmed that the long-awaited M5 Touring G99 will soon be available in the US and Canada.

After designer Domagoj Dukec recently hinted that the M5 Touring would be coming to America, BMW released a press release today to confirm this exciting news. However, we will have to wait a bit longer for its official unveiling. Logic suggests that this will happen after the debut of the G90 sedan. The Bavarian automaker will gain a competitor to take on the AMG E63 Estate and Audi RS6 Avant. These three cars will compete in the rare segment of high-performance luxury wagons, countering the obsession with crossovers.

Given the trend towards smaller sizes in the automotive industry, the new M5 Touring and Sedan are likely to be among the last BMW models with a V8 engine. We can confidently say that this will be the only 5 Series of this generation with a V8 engine.

It will not be the "S63" used in the previous generation of the model, but the "S68" found in the M versions of the X5, X6, and X7. It is also used in the 760i and XM. The hybrid system of the latter will be adapted for the M5 duo.

BMW is currently silent about the technical specifications, but internal sources claim that the new M5 could develop up to 718 horsepower. Our separate article on the new teaser video released today contains all the available (though unconfirmed) juicy details. The only accurate information pertains to the hybrid V8 and an electric range of 43 miles. It is worth noting that the G99 will be the only 5 Series wagon to receive a visual for the US. At the same time, BMW's Canadian division is asking fans whether they should bring the hot wagon to the country.

Production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. BMW reports that the M5 Touring will be available for the 2025 model year in the US, where prototype testing has already started ahead of the market launch. The official unveiling of the M5 Wagon is scheduled for next summer.
