The dismembered body of a foreigner is found in a freezer in Thailand.
Thai police say the mutilated body of a missing German businessman has been found in a freezer in a house in the south of the country. Nong Prue police chief Tawi Kudthalaeng said the body of 62-year-old Hans-Peter Mack, 62, was discovered around 11 p.m. Monday. Makk had been missing for a week.
According to investigators, the body was discovered through surveillance footage from the property. Tavi refused to disclose details, but Thai media published photos and video showing a freezer in the back of a black truck with a man crouched next to it.
The missing man was last seen driving his Mercedes in Pattaya, a coastal city in southern Thailand, according to a missing person's notice circulated by his relatives. The family has offered a reward of 3 million baht (about $86,000) for information leading to his whereabouts.
Eyewitnesses gathered at the gate of the house where the body was found and watched forensic teams dressed in white coveralls, mesh caps and blue gloves at work. Physical evidence in the form of a trash bag from a large white freezer was seized by experts; a Makita cordless chain saw, a pair of yellow pruning shears with handles and two large rolls of plastic were found there.

Local media reported that Makk lived in Pattaya with his Thai wife and worked as a real estate broker. He had been a resident of Thailand for at least a few years. His Mercedes E350 was found Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Nong Prue, a luxury community popular with foreign nationals northeast of Pattaya in Chonburi province.
Police said a large sum of money was missing from Makk's bank account, which they link to the death. The police chief declined to disclose details but said investigators were looking at several suspects, including German and Thai nationals.
The German Embassy in Bangkok rejected all questions, referring them to the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin. The office said it is aware of the missing German citizen and has been officially contacted by the man's relatives and Thai authorities. For confidentiality reasons, they could not provide further details.
