About2 million apartments in Serbia do not have central heating.
It is claimed that 64.2% or 1,304,593 of these heating apartments primarily use firewood for heating, 17.3% or 352,185 apartments are heated with electricity, and 255,082 apartments or 12.6% use gas or gas fuel. Coal, fuel oil, heating oil, solar, geothermal, and wind energy are used in only 3.8% of these apartments.
It is also noted that the results of the 2022 census show that in apartments with collective heating, firewood is the most commonly used heating source (59.2%). This is followed by gas/gas fuel (19.2%) and electricity (15.5%).
The data from the RZS also shows that in apartments without installed heating systems, where other devices such as stoves and fireplaces are used for heating, wood fuel is the most commonly used at 69.7%, followed by electricity at 19.3%. Gas/gas fuel is used in 6.9% of apartments, coal in 1.9%, and the share of fuel oil, heating oil, and other types of energy is only 0.3%.
