A father, tired of high property prices in the UK, used eBay to buy a six-bed house in Bulgaria for £3,000.
A father has used eBay to buy a six-bedroom house in Bulgaria after unsuccessful attempts to buy a home in the UK. Rob Davies turned to the online auction site in desperation, angered by property prices in his home country.
Most of us have to sell a kidney to make an upfront payment for a home nowadays. However, this 35-year-old man from the Scottish coast bought an impressive house in Golyamo Krushevo, Bulgaria, for just £3,000.
His purchase ended up on Channel 4's show "Help! We've bought a village." And although the house needs cosmetic repairs, Rob is delighted with the deal.
Rob's new six-bedroom home is located 20 miles north of the Turkish border and even has half an acre''land. However, there are no bathrooms, kitchen, windows, electricity or water, so he'll have to spend money to update the interior.
Rob says the house was built more than 100 years ago but has been derelict since the 1980s. Although it requires a lot of spending on renovations, Rob said he was confident in his decision to buy it just by looking at some photos online.
"I always look for properties on the market to find possible bargains," Rob said. "I did a random search on eBay, just typing in the word 'real estate' to see what was out there.
"I sent them a message, told them I was interested, that I wanted to buy it, made a down payment of 200''Pounds and got the keys. The rest is history,' he continued.
Although the house is still in need of renovation, Rob is delighted with his purchase. He admitted that the deal was something of a risk, but will give him the opportunity to leave a legacy for his children. Rob fell so in love with this Bulgarian village that he bought two more properties, costing just £1,500 and £3,000 respectively.
Okay, I pack my suitcase and go straight onto eBay.
