Open meetings of the DPR of Georgia to discuss the deer population.
Savannah, Georgia - When it is currently not deer hunting season in Georgia, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is developing a plan to manage the population of white-tailed deer over the next six years.
The DNR will hold three open meetings this week to discuss certain issues related to the deer population in Georgia.
The DNR says that managing deer population density is primarily done through hunting, but there are also other aspects they need to consider. They have to think about the deer population, deer-vehicle collisions, hunting regulations, and chronic wasting disease, among other things.
The DNR says they will use all public comments made at these meetings to help determine their goals for managing the deer population, as well as biological data. Biologists will also be present at the meetings to answer questions from the public and provide background information.
The meeting will take place at the USDA/FSA Service Center in Statesboro from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday.
