The panel of deputies in Georgia is discussing a bill on transgender bathrooms in schools, provoking sharp criticism.

Where should transgender students go to use the restroom? This is one of the questions that was discussed on Thursday by the GeorgiaHouse of Representatives' education policy subcommittee, which is considering a bill that calls for school districts to designate multiple restrooms either for people whose bodies produce eggs or for those whose bodies produce sperm. The bill, introduced by Fayetteville legislator Josh Bonner, did not receive a vote from the subcommittee on Thursday. Next Thursday is Crossover Day, the last day for the bill to pass a full vote in the House or Senate without unusual legislative maneuvers.
Bonner said the bill does not target transgender youth in Georgia.
Several people spoke out against the bill, considering it unjust and claiming that it could lead to an increase in bullying of transgender children. Others argued that the bill would be difficult to enforce without violating students' privacy and would create problems by sending muscular, bearded transgender boys into girls' rooms or feminine transgender girls into boys' rooms.
