Dad buys Bulgarian estate for £3,000 on eBay as UK housing crisis hits.
Furious about the UK's housing crisis, a father rents a six-bedroom house in Bulgaria for £3,000. Rob Davies, from the West Coast of Scotland, bought the neglected property after seeing it on eBay. He explained that he made the decision to buy as he could not find a home in his local area.
The story of 35-year-old Rob was told in the latest edition of the TV show 'Help! I Bought a Village' on Channel 4, which airs today at 5pm. Rob said buying the house, which is in Golyamo Kruszewo, 20 miles north of the Turkish border, was "completely accidental", reports the Mirror. Rob revealed: "I'm always looking for properties on the market to find bargains. I just randomly started searching on eBay, typing in the queries''on a real estate search. And that's how it all started.
Rob's new home, which stands alone on a half-acre lot, was built more than 100 years ago. But it has not been used since the 1980s and has been left empty and neglected. The house is in need of a serious refresh: there are no installed bathrooms, kitchen, windows, electricity or water. But Rob doesn't see it as a challenge, he's just happy to invest in his family's future. He continues, "It's a risk and I've had my downfalls, but I also feel euphoric because I'm accomplishing goals. I'm mending floors, learning how this house was built in its original time, and having a playful time. "
